I will be writing on the importance of love in this post. Man is very unstable. We are still learning about the love of God. Once we understand God’s love and begin to walk in it, and then graduate to the fullness of His love, we would then become all that God wants us to be. Ephesians 3: 17- 19.
The Importance of Love
Love is so important to God and man. As strong as faith, giving and prayer are, they can’t work without love. 1 Corinthians 13: 13 says; And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
The commandment God gave Moses to the children of Israel was summarized into 2 laws when Jesus came. 1) Love God (2) Love your neighbour as yourself.
Love remains the basis of the covenant (Matthew 22: 37- 40). According to the Word of God, to be saved, one needs faith but even faith cannot work without love. Therefore, without love one can’t make it to Heaven.
Let’s see what 1 Corinthians 13; 1-3 says;
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Verse 4 talks about the characteristics of love.
Another importance of Love
Unfortunately, there are people who do so much good on earth and still end up in hell because of malice/ unforgiveness. As minute as this may seem, it can make one’s effort end in futility. The sin of unforgiveness is very common even among Christians. The best way to handle this is to forgive people even before they offend you. It sets you free and makes you access your blessings on earth easily.
Remember Jesus spoke about people who would come and say, “we cast out demons in your name, we did this and that” but He will still tell them to depart and that He doesn’t know them.
The opposite of love which is hatred/ unforgiveness separates people from God. It’s possible to do mighty things for God and still have the sin of unforgiveness working in one’s life. This is why we should endeavor to search ourselves regularly.
Final note
Everything in the kingdom works by love. To prove your love for God you must love what He loves, i.e the souls of men.
