Each crop has to be planted at a specific time to bear fruits and seasons differ for crops. Targeting the appropriate planting time minimizes stress and increases the chances of performance for such crops.

In the same vein, we as humans have our seasons. There is time to sow and time to reap. There is time to dive at an opportunity starring you in the face and a time to lay low.

Ecclesiastes 3: 1- 13 lists some of these things for us. There is a season for everything under heaven. Jesus wept over Jerusalem because they didn’t know their time of visitation (Luke 19: 41- 44). Knowing your time/ season and working according to it automatically eliminates stress from your life.

A story

James and John are very good friends who had dreams and goals as young children. The started off on the same path but ended up on different sides of the social ladder.

James wanted to be an Engineer and live comfortably with his family. He is also the type of person who tries to avoid difficulty. As a result of this, he never really took chances. He got what he wanted but was never wealthy.

John also became an Engineer but was very successful. He had a large business empire and many people working for him. While James saw the difficulty in most situations that had something positive for him, John saw an opportunity. These circumstances ended up catapulting John to his present success. John understands the times and seasons.

The Eagle is an important bird and it’s been referenced in the Bible about 34times. Isaiah 40: 30 says, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint”. The NIV version says, “They will soar on wings like eagles”. Asides from the powerful eyesight of eagles, they are also high fliers. Interestingly, the eagle needs help to attain such great height. They attain this by studying/ understanding the wind pattern and taking advantage of it.

There are other birds of the air created by God that don’t fly as high as the eagle. This is because the eagle knows something they don’t. This bird has studied the wind pattern, it knows when times are favourable to fly and this secret has distinguished it from other birds.

How it applies to us

High fliers are people who understand the times and seasons. When people see the difficulty, they see opportunity. While others are saying there is a casting down, they are saying there is a lifting up. An example of this is the COVID-19 pandemic. Companies are laying off workers, things are looking gloomy. Rather than getting depressed about it, why not look at the brighter side, look for the opportunity in it. Start your own company, develop yourself, take a new course, and most importantly, ask God for directions.

For some, this might be the opportunity to finally answer God’s purpose for your life after living years outside God’s purpose for you. When you are in God’s plan, you are exempted from all forms of hardship that will take place on earth. We can see an example of this in Exodus 7:14-24.

Understanding the times and seasons will make labour of 50yrs take you only a year to accomplish. This is a very fertile season, don’t let it go to waste. Ask God for directions and obey His leading.
