A transition can be defined as that period between where one is coming from and where they are going. This can be used in the various contexts of a person’s life such as business, carrier, relationships, spiritual life, etc.

It is interesting to note that people can experience various phases of transition and what makes this period bearable and easy is knowing what to do when in this phase of life.

Let’s take a look at Lizzy’s story.

Lizzy is a brilliant student. She was always toping her class and her parents were really proud of her. Now, Lizzy was in her final year and she needed to write an exam to proceed to the next level. Her parents were sure she will do well, and so were her classmates and teachers but something happened.

When the results came out, Lizzy failed. Something she had not experienced in her. Her teachers believed there was an error somewhere and asked for a remark but the result was still the same. People were surprised. As human beings can be, some were happy about this while others sympathized with her. Lizzy couldn’t understand what was happening. She didn’t know whether to cry or shout, whether to be shameful or develop self-pity.  Failing this exam requires that the individual waits for 2 years before attempting another. Two years was like forever. How will she wait for two years and see her classmates move 2 years ahead of her?

What would you have done in Lizzy’s shoes?

There are times like this in our lives when it seems like things are going downwards for the worst. If you know you are standing right with God and doing what He tells you to do (in His Word and personally), you have no reason to be sad. Although it may seem impossible, just relax. There is something He needs to work out on your behalf. All things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to His promise (Romans 8: 28). This is not a Word to just rejoice about but also to believe and put into practice just like the case of Lizzy.

The reaction of human nature in the case of Lizzy

For those who are not aware of what is happening in their lives, one can notice various forms of reactions. It could be that of anger, self-pity, or depression. Some will fast and pray to break every form of bondage but may not necessarily see changes at the moment.

Some may decide to consult various forms of altars.

This case presents two opportunities either to learn and grow or wallow in self-pity and find an alternative route out. This alternative route could be developing a negative attitude towards life and transferring this to others around you or going diabolic.

I remember some time ago, there was this man that had just lost his wife and was going through another challenge within a short interval. He was exhausted, tired, etc. People were trying to help out and give suggestions. Although there were people on the side of God with him, there were also those on the side of the devil campaigning. There was this man, a prominent person who people knew was diabolic, he counseled this bereaved man and told him of a man somewhere that could be of help. My brothers and sister, if you find yourself in such a situation please flee. Don’t just run away because they might catch up. People from the other side are very desperate and persuasive in their dealings.

That being said, let’s see the outcome of Lizzy.

Lizzy went in the right direction and decided to stick with God regardless of what had happened.

After 2 years, she went on to the next phase of her life. When she sat down to recount her story after 10 years, she realized that she was way ahead of her mates and her organization with international recognition would never have been in place if not for what she experienced in the 2 years of her life.

Among the things she learnt were the management of resources, communication skills, and characters such as patience and humility. Without these, she wouldn’t have been able to lead because these are fundamentals for leadership.

Although Lizzy was after academics, God needed her to build other virtues that will help her be the person she ought to be. This is still happening now. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His ways are not like ours.

When you understand this side of God, things become easy. Even when it seems like you are going through trials or in your transition season, you will know how to maximize every opportunity that comes your way.
