Self-esteem can be described as self-worth. This is how an individual subjectively evaluates him/her self. Seeing yourself as either being worth it or not.

Various occurrences happen in life that could cause us to change the perception of who we are. This could result in one developing low self-esteem. People should understand that we all have the power to determine where we belong even though sometimes, the choice is made subconsciously.

Before I dive deeper into self-esteem, let me give you a little picture of who you are, believe it or not.

A picture from the scripture.

1 Peter 2: 9

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;

Wow, this is great, I have been chosen, I am a royal priesthood meaning I am royalty whether I choose to believe it or not and the same goes for you. The Bible calls you peculiar and also a Holy nation. No wonder the devil blocks the eyes of men making it impossible to see what God thinks of them through His word (2 Corinthians 4: 4). The Word of God is true.

A second passage is seen below;

Revelation 1: 6

And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

We’ve been made Kings and Priest unto our God. This is still talking about royalty. To know more about the function of the Priest, check the old testament, the days of Moses.

It’s very important to work in the consciousness of this fact. Even though it may not look like it, keep walking in the consciousness of it until it materializes. Don’t allow people to put you down, Ignore their opinion, and keep your head up high like a King or Queen that you are. The Word of God (the Bible) is full of good news. You need to see and understand what is being written before you can become a beneficiary.

Other Passages

Psalm 82: 6

I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

John 10: 34- 36

34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

We can see in verse 35 that the scriptures cannot be broken. When people come across scriptures like this, they are very fast to discard it in disbelief. Some even call it blasphemy.

We can never be equal to God. We are only privileged to be His son/ daughter all because of what Jesus has done for us. Never by what we did or what we’ll ever do, the truth be told. A child of a Goat is a Goat, a child of a Dog is a Dog and a child of God is a god (in the flesh).

No matter how one chooses to twist the scripture, the truth will always remain that we are gods in Christ. God told Moses that He has made him a god to Pharoah: and his brother Aaron will be his prophet ( Exodus 7: 1). This was God Himself speaking to Moses. Knowing who you really are in Christ and applying this truth to your daily life kicks the devil off your back. Things like low self-esteem will not even come close to you neither will what people say or do affect you.

Self-esteem continued

You have to feel comfortable in your own skin, be comfortable in your God-ordained calling. Don’t try to imitate another person’s life. You are the original copy of yourself. God sees you as someone peculiar so what do you care what any other person thinks. Irrespective of your position and the circumstances surrounding your birth or your life, God loves you and sees you as a peculiar person. That thing making you look down on yourself cannot stand who God says you are in His word. Don’t let people’s opinions affect you because man is very unstable. Today they are your friends tomorrow, they become your enemies.

Always remember that you have a purpose on earth. Locate that purpose, begin to work hard, and develop yourself towards that purpose, feel comfortable in your calling then begin to grow in it.

Final Note

Careless about what other people think about you, care more about what God says concerning you. This attitude helps in growing and developing one’s self-esteem. The same God that created these people you idolize is the same God that created you and this is what He says, “you are fearfully and wonderfully made”.
