To overcome means to be victorious over something which is usually a happy moment.

There are some passages that weren’t so clear to me until I had some experiences.

One of them was Jesus speaking, “Be of good cheer for I have overcome the world”

Among other things, this passage means that the difficult or challenging time you are going through has already been rigged in your favour whether it seems so or not. The act of Jesus made this possible.

It helps as children of God, when facing challenges to always have it at the back of our minds that the outcome of that battle is in our favour regardless of the present situation.

Overcome: All things work together for good

Another is, All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8: 28)”.

Challenges serve as a training ground and are also there to showcase God’s power in our lives. Challenges make us grow spiritually, mentally, and even physically, the end result is always rigged in our favour. If there weren’t hard times, how will miracles happen? How will people testify? Remember the Word of God says that some people will not believe if they don’t see signs and wonders (John 4: 48). Also as believers, miracles of God in our lives keep us going. It’s what we hold on to and remember when the going gets tough.

I have also noticed that at times when God wants to give you something, He may need to take you through the long path as He did with the Israelites rather than the shortcut.

Some time ago, there was a project I needed to complete within 3 months. I had a proposal for it and my timing was set. I prayed a short prayer that the project should touch the lives of people. Also, for me to meet the right people that will help in making this project a reality. Little did I know that the project will take 6 months just to reach the right people before it even begins. Even though I had my timing, God had His.

Overcome: My Experience

The people I met at each point in time were significant even though from the human perspective, their response wasn’t what I wanted.

I will use alphabets to replace the names of people I met throughout the period.

Person A linked me up with Person B. B linked me up with a senior person C. C had a chat with me and concluded that she will link me up with D who is likely to be more interested in the project and most likely have a wealth of experience. When I got in touch with person D, D was quite interested in the project. But also highlighted some challenges I may face on the way and then advised me to modify the project.

I was able to get another proposal that I loved more than the previous one. When person D took a look at it, D liked it but stated that I wasn’t going to receive as much direction as I would have gotten with the previous proposal. At this point, I got tired. I start wondering whether the enemy had entered. My prayer became intense. After everything, I left the project.

A few weeks later, I was inspired to search in another direction. I did and then started sending messages to people I felt maybe interested. The majority of the response I received was not wonderful then one faithful day, something happened. I got a message from person F who was interested in the project and had a lot of experience in that area. The rest is history.

What I learnt from this experience is;

  1. When making a request from God, be specific.

If you ask amidst, you will receive a general reply. If I just made a general prayer, I wouldn’t have gotten the specific impact I wanted in the lives of people.

  1. Sometimes you may need to go through the Israelite’s journey to arrive at your promised land.

Just follow God’s leading. He can choose to take you in whatever direction He wishes to because He knows what is best for you. He sees the end of a thing right from the beginning. When you are working with God, it is important to put your timing inside your pocket and let Him lead.

Other Lessons

  1. A lot of things we think are disappointments are actually blessings in disguise. This is why the Word of God tells us that ALL things work together for good to those who love God.

If I hadn’t met person D, I wouldn’t have written a better proposal fit for me nor would I have gotten the perfect person to help in executing the project. Although I got disappointed and tired at that stage, it was all for a greater purpose. This leads me to the final point

  1. Our victory is already rigged, just hang in there till it comes, till you overcome. When unpleasant things happen, it is important to remember that there is a greater purpose attached to it, something really good. We may not understand it at the moment but in a little while, everything will make sense. This is only if you refuse to give up.

Like I said earlier, if we didn’t go through trials and tribulations, how will we testify that God is good when we receive our breakthroughs and miracles?

Although it may not look like it now, hang in there because your victory is rigged and you are more than a conqueror. You have overcome
